We were supposed to have fun, video extract: 3:55min, 2011 - ongoing
Clips from personal archive of the artist are montaged together in this open, in-progress work. Collected over an extended period of time and with varying equipment that in itself record the times, the careful juxtapositions eschew chronology in favour of examining memory as an autonomous mechanism. This mechanism is functions via resource to the rendering of aesthetical registers that arise through experiencing differing cultural environments –from brothel houses to churches, festivals to techno parties. The resulting fragmented narratives are an attempt to form mnemonic relations that can be transmitted and shared in a reality that is viewed as being always in emergence.
